What I Did in Pittsburgh | Birthday Weekend!

Hi guys!

It feels good to be putting out a new post this week. Even though it’s just a short recap of my weekend birthday trip, I hope you enjoy!

On Wednesday night I arrived in Pittsburgh and pretty much relaxed in the hotel for the evening. Josh and I ordered some late night pizza and I sat in bed eating and watching tv. I don’t have the photo of my pizza, but it was delicious and loaded with veggies!

On Thursday it was my birthday! It was time to start the real fun. I slept in late and then woke up to get ready to eat breakfast somewhere. I remembered that I had a free drink to redeem at Starbucks, so Josh and I walked down to the closest one near our hotel.

I got my favorite drink, a Flat White made with almond milk. ✨

Once our drinks were in hand, we walked down to a donut shop that we had passed to see if they made vegan varieties. They sadly said no, so we spent some time trying to figure out where we wanted to go next.

Eventually we settled on Square Cafe. A nice little place in a different area downtown with plenty of vegan options for myself. 🌱

Josh got a salad, and I ordered their jackfruit bowl. It was filled with mushrooms, sweet potatoes, and spicy jackfruit chunks. It was wonderful!

For lunch I ate snacks back at the hotel, and I don’t have many pictures from that time period. It was dinner that truly owned the day, so I’ll flash forward to that!

Later on Thursday evening we went to Burgatory. A sit-down burger joint that recently acquired the Impossible Burger. It’s an entirely plant-based burger patty that was designed to closely replicate animal meat.

My thoughts? It was a scary close match in both taste, texture, and the look of it! Burgatory serves this burger with non-vegan toppings, but can gladly switch them out with alternate ones if asked. I had mine with lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion, and vegan cheese. I also received a side of vegan mayo for my seasoned fries. Everything was DELICIOUS.

In my short time being vegan (just over a year), this was a strange yet satisfying moment. I’m super proud of the products that are available now compared to not so long ago. Thank you Burgatory for the great experience! 🍔

On Friday Josh took me to The Milkshake Factory. I got a dairy-free chocolate raspberry milkshake, and it was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever had in my life. 😍

For dinner, we went to Sushi Fuku (Fuku means “Lucky”). It is a really cool place that lets you create your own sushi as you go. Think of Chipotle, and you’ll get the idea. 🙂 I got a sushi roll filled with tofu, rice, avocado, carrot, cucumber, and seaweed. I got a side of ginger dressing to dip it in, and it was SOOOO GOOD.

I really wish we had a place like this in my area, because I would go all the time. 😆

On Friday night and into Saturday, I binge watched the second season of Stranger Things on Netflix with Josh. It was such an amazing season, and I highly recommend you find some time to watch it all!

It also rained all day and night on Saturday, so I stayed inside the hotel until it was time for me to pack up and head home. 🏡

I had a wonderful time eating delicious food, relaxing, exploring Pittsburgh, and being with Josh the whole time for my birthday. I couldn’t be more grateful. ❤️

Until next time!
