First Impressions | Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick

Hey guys!

I wanted to to sort of a quickie review / first impressions post on the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick collection.💄

Let me tell you a little bit more about it.

The collection has 30 lipstick shades, and they are $18 each. Anastasia Beverly Hills claims that they are full of pigment and have a smooth and ultra-matte finish.

BONUS

This entire collection is cruelty-free and vegan!

Above is the shade range photo from the ABH website. As you can see, they have quite a range of shades. From browns, to pinks, grays, and all the way up to some bold shades like blue (Cobalt) and teal (Insomniac).

If you can find a store to test them out yourself, I would definitely recommend it! Here’s a photo of my hand that I covered in swatches when they first came out.👇

I had the opportunity to try the almost all of the shades on my hand after they were just opened, which was pretty awesome!

I noticed that a lot of the colors did not apply smoothly and there was a lot of skipping going on as I rubbed the bullet on my hand. I had to make several passes before the color truly appeared smoothly. Once they did, the pigment payoff was amazing. All of the colors are vibrant and bold, but it took a lot of extra swiping to get there.

Here are four of my favorite shades from the collection.✨

Here’s my own experience story.

Cotton Candy had decent staying power on my lips for around 5-6 hours when I applied it by itself. I attempted to wear Cobalt and Griffin with gloss over them on two separate days. On both days, the gloss seemed to ‘melt’ my lipstick away and it created faded patches of color on the edges of my lips.

I also attempted to wear these shades without lip primer or lip liner of any kind. Cotton Candy seemed to hold up alright all by itself. Yet Cobalt and Griffin started bleeding on the edges of my lips fairly quickly (still with gloss on top).

Sigh.🙄

There could be an issue with the colors I tried (bad batch?) or maybe they just actually sucked. I don’t know if I’ll ever purchase any of these, but they sure are beautiful. Plus, it’s amazing to see Anastasia Beverly Hills come out with vegan cosmetics for consumers like me. I hope it spreads!

Here’s a bonus photo of me wearing Cobalt. This application was without gloss. What do you think? ✨
